Slang Words and Meanings... Eliza Douglas



Teenagers are known for creating and using their own slang words and phrases. Here are some popular ones you might be using:



1.  Slay - To excel at something or to look great.


     "You slayed that presentation!"



2.  Lit - Exciting or excellent.


     "That party was lit!"



3.  Fam - Close friends, like family.


     "What's up, fam?"



4.  Salty - Being bitter or upset.


     "Why are you so salty today?"



5.  Ghosting - Suddenly ignoring someone, especially in dating.


     "He just ghosted me after our date."



6.  Flex - To show off.


     "Stop flexing your new phone."



7.  GOAT - Greatest Of All Time.


     "Michael Jordan is the GOAT."



8.  Mood - A relatable feeling or situation.


     "Eating pizza in bed is a whole mood."



9.  Tea - Gossip or personal information.


     "Spill the tea on what happened at the party."



10.  Shook - Shocked or surprised.


      "I was shook when I heard the news."



11. Stan - A combination of "stalker" and "fan," meaning an overly enthusiastic fan.


     "I totally stan this band."



12.  Yeet - To throw something with force or excitement; also used as an exclamation.


     "He yeeted the ball across the field."



13.  Bop - A really good song.


      "This song is such a bop!"



14.  Cap/No Cap - "Cap" means a lie; "No cap" means no lie or for real.


      "That story is all cap."


      "I aced the test, no cap."



15. Low-key/High-key - "Low-key" means slightly or secretly; "High-key" means very or openly.


      "I'm low-key excited for the trip."


      "I'm high-key stressed about exams."



16. Snatched - Looking good, usually referring to someone's appearance.


      "Her outfit is snatched."



17. Simp - Someone who does too much for someone they like.


"He's such a simp for buying her all those gifts."



18. VSCO girl - A stereotype of a teenager who wears certain brands and uses specific products, often associated with environmentalism.


      "Look at all those scrunchies, she's such a VSCO girl."



19.  Big yikes - A strong feeling of embarrassment or awkwardness.


      "I spilled coffee on my boss, big yikes."



20.  Bruh - A casual greeting or expression of disbelief.


      "Bruh, are you serious?"
